MEN WHO DARE! Far out in an angry sea sailors grapple with monster whales in combat to death! "Moby Dick" depicts the thrilling fulfillment of one man's vow to kill the sea monster! WOMEN WHO WAIT! A passionate goodbye! Her vow to remain faithful until his promised return! Then years of waiting for the safe landing of the ship that was to carry back the killer of "Mody Dick." An unforgettable thrill! JOHN BARRYMORE SUPERB IN "MOBY DICK" John Barrymore will be seen next week in the dialog screen version of Herman Melville's immortal story of whaling days, "Moby Dick." As Captain Ahab, insanely bent in wreaking vengeance on the monstrous "Mob Dick," Barrymore builds up a character that can not soon be forgotten. The conflicting loves of mad Captain Ahab and his brother for the pretty daughter of the minister is an added but invaluable factor in the screen version of the novel. BUSTER KEATON STARS IN "DOUGH BOYS," LAUGH-PACKED COMEDY ROMANCE "Dough Boys," with Buster Keaton in hilarious adventures as a greenhorn doughboy at the front, is the attraction that will keep audiences rocking with laughter at this theatre next week. Buster joins the army through a mishap, and after all manner of comical grief at training camp finds himself "Over There." He gets lost in "No Man's Land," finds himself in German dugouts, and has one hilarious adventure after another until the Armistice ends his woes. Edward Sedgwick directed the picture. Sally Eilers is charming as the heroine of the new picture, and Cliff Edwards and his trusty ukulele add attraction with "Sing" and other songs. In the entertainment scene in the theatre behind the lines he, Miss Eilers and Keaton stage an excruciating "act". An excellent supporting cast is seen in the other roles.
Heard in Hollywood! Here's Anita Page and two of M-G-M's canine stars all set for some Hollywood Hallowe'en whoopee! There'll be ducking for apples and popping popcorn and all sorts of gay doings at the Joan Crawford - Doug Fairbanks menage on Hallowe'en. Joan, incidentally, has been gringing her lunch to the studios to keep strictly to her diet! And talking of diet brings weights to mind, which in turn reminds one of heights and the fact that Norma Shearer, Bessie Love, Dorothy Jordan, Joan Marsh and Raquel Torres are the smallest girls at the Culver City Studios -- they all range from five feet one inch to five feet two and a half inches. Adolphe Menjou is trying to promote a new picture star -- Fanchette, his elongated but very active Scotch terrier, who, he claims, for beauty and talent should be in the famous Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Barkie company. And, anent that Barkie company, Buster, the hero of this remarkable crew of canines, is the proud father of a litter of puppies. One is so identical to him that he is being trained to take his father's place later on. Out Hollywood way, Cecil B. De Mille is known not only as the director of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's sensational "Madame Satan," but also as one of the most avid antique collectors in the world. One of his recent prized acquisitions is a rug made of the uniforms of United States soldiers killed in Indian wars. What's a foreign accent to Greta Garbo? In "Anna Christie" she used her own Swedish dialect. In "Romance" she spoke with an Italian accent. For "Inspiration," her newest Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production, she's cultivating a French accent. Lewis Stone's famous cruiser is up for sale. The Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer player is disposing of his fast yacht, replacing it with a luxurious schooner for voyages under sail. 200 Horses Used in Riding Sequence of "New Moon" Film Motion picture horses, long at pasture because of the talkies, will come into their own in "New Moon," Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's new production starring Lawrence Tibbett and Grace Moore. More than two hundred famous screen horses, among them many who have appeared with Hoot Gibson, Jack Hoxie and Tom Mix in the old days, are used in "New Moon."
