LES TRUCS DU CINÉMA

LA FRUITE DES POTIRONS. Que des citrouilles roulent de bas en haut d'une rue montante et finissent par s'engouffrer dans une fenêtre ouverte paraît un tour de force magique. L'explication en est très simple. Si on dévide le film à rebours, tous le mouvements représentés sont intervertis. Dans la scène figurée sur notre chromo, les cucurbitacées d'une main adroite et descendent la pente. L'homme qui paraît les poursuivre court en réalité à reculons, dans la direction du char, mais l'opérateur a soin, en déroulant le film a contre-sens, de produire l'illusion d'une fuite et d'une poursuite

CINEMA TRICKS

THE FLIGHT OF THE PUMPKINS. That pumpkins should roll uphill and end up disappearing into an open window seems like a magical feat. The explanation is very simple. If the film is played in reverse, all the movements shown are reversed. In the scene depicted in our chromolithograph, the pumpkins are being rolled downhill by a skillful hand. The man who appears to be chasing them is actually running backward, towards the cart, but the cameraman, by running the film in reverse, creates the illusion of a chase and escape.

The Liebig company produced hundreds of different cards showing everyday life to advertise their bullion (broth) flavoring. The "Trucs du Cinema" series was six cards showing how special effects were made in film. This set was released in 1913.
